「……そうだ。料理に関してだけど、絶対に亜由美には料理をさせるなよ」

「えっ、なんで？」

珍しく真剣に言う兄の声にマユはおもわずキッチンに立つ優騎を見てしまう。

「あー、その話は僕が言うよ。優騎君は調理に戻って」

「ういー」

優騎が手を休めていた訳ではないのだが、今日は出来るだけ早く夕食にしてもらうために刻也が代わりにその答えを口にする。

「去年の秋に橘さんが１回だけ料理をした時があってね――」

――その日は優騎君と石動さんは寮に居なくて、じゃんけんにまけた彼女が昼食を作る事になったんだ。

焼き魚なら出来るかと彼女は言って、ちょうど昨日買って来ていた秋刀魚を焼いたんだ。
普通に魚をガスレンジでね。
でも、出来上がって僕等の前に出て来たのはゲル状になった秋刀魚らしきものだったんだ。

のちの"ゲルフィッシュ"誕生の瞬間である。

「―――本当、嫌な事件だったよ」

「……え？」

信じられないが本当の事らしく、テレビの前でチャンネル争いを繰り広げていた蓮と絋斗が青い顔で頷いている。

「あ、これ以外の掃除とかは当番になってるから、あとは普通の寮と同じだよ〜」

相当嫌な記憶らしく語り終え固まる刻也の代わりにグラスや箸を並べる風華が少々強引に説明を終わらせる。

「……大丈夫かな、私」

「……大丈夫。嫌でも慣れるさ」

「……あ、あはは」

最後に兄妹2人が吐いたため息に風華は笑うしかなかった。
